APAMSA as their contribution for this year's Cultural Fair (a collaboration b/t different SOM student organizations) will be doing Filipino Dances choreographed by Knic Rabara! I've attached some youtube versions to give you an idea of what these dances are if you've never seen them. They aren't the best videos but you'll get the idea. If you are interested (you do not have to be Filipino or Asian, you just have to want to learn that's all), please email me and let me know.
On the docket possibly are:
tinikling (bamboo stick dance), kinda reminds me of double dutch for some reason =)

sayaw sa bangko (bench dance)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=439NOKgFyho
maglalatik (coconut bra dance), men in coconut bras, need I say more??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9KKqZDWYb4
Check out my friend Betty doing Poongmul with the Korean Drum Troupe at UCLA! (kinda like Dhol, nah?)

Emergency Tips
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST
Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked.
Try it out.
SECOND
Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!"
THIRD
Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.
FOURTH
How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to our handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
And Finally....
FIFTH
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or ( 800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.
This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends.
Good luck

hny
so i'm sitting and working in my bed on my insomnia presentation (which by the way is the number one no-no in the treatment of insomnia as you need to build positive associations with your bed for sleep and sex ONLY!) and at the same time, i'm trying to finish up my ethics paper and managed care paper (darn hmo's--pain in my butt!) and i get a text message from a friend i hadn't heard from in a while... so being lazy and in the midst of working fast to get some sleep (whatever that means, as I have to wake up at 4:30 in the morning and leave by 5) i reply back to his message with a cheery "hny!" at the end... to my surprise i get a stream of "LOL"s and excited propositional faces and messages back as a response for being "horny!"
Go Figure! -i had to take time to blog this one real quick before getting back to work!
hny=happy new year world!

Connie Talbot's original audition...
...really makes my heart melt and makes you believe that life can be beautiful again... :-) @----}---0----O-----------
Congrats on your album, Connie!
Ten Thoughts to Ponder for 2008
Number 10
Life is sexually transmitted.
Number 9
Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
Number 8
Men have two emotions: Hungry and Horny. If you see him without an
erection, make him a sandwich.
Number 7
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day, teach a person to use the internet and they won't bother you for weeks.
Number 6
Some people are like a Slinky .. Not really good for anything, but you
still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.
Number 5
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Number 4
All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Number 3
Why does a slight tax increase cost you $200.00 and a substantial tax cut saves you $30.00?
Number 2
In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
And The Number 1 Thought For 2008
We know exactly where one cow with mad-cow-disease is located among millions and millions of cows in America but we haven't got a clue as to where millions of illegal immigrants and terrorists are located. Maybe we should put the Dept. of Agriculture in charge of Immigration.
